Our focus on Income and Self-Sufficiency

United Way of Greater Greensboro funds 66 programs and initiatives through 30 member agencies and partners. Each program and initiative must demonstrate that it meets a need in the community, makes an impact, and aligns with United Way’s objectives. Every funded program serves a need in our community and is evaluated throughout the year.

GROWING SUCCESSFUL KIDS

VISION: All children in greater Greensboro grow up in healthy physical, social, emotional and academic environments that are safe and nurturing.

Objectives:

  • Reduce the number of children in our community who are neglected or abused
  • Reduce the number of families unable to obtain affordable, quality childcare
  • Increase the number of children who meet age-appropriate developmental milestones for entry into kindergarten/first grade
  • Increase the likelihood of success in schools for disadvantaged students through social and academic enrichment

HELPING PEOPLE HELP THEMSELVES

VISION: All people in greater Greensboro have the opportunity to lead self-sufficient and dignified lives.

Objectives:

  • Provide immediate relief and transitional aid that allows individuals in need to resume or improve self-sufficiency
  • Increase the capacity of individuals and families to deal with difficult life situations
  • Increase the ability of people to maximize their potential
  • Reduce barriers to the use of community service

CARING FOR EVERYONE'S HEALTH

VISION: All people in greater Greensboro have the opportunity to maximize their physical, mental and emotional health and well-being.

Objectives:

  • Increase access to preventive, educational and other health services by underserved ethnic and cultural minorities
  • Increase access to healthcare, support, and prevention education services for individuals with, or at risk of, specialized health needs
  • Reduce the number of people in our community with behavioral health or substance abuse problems that are destructive to individuals, families, and communities
